Mykonos Instagram Spots: The 11 Best Photos Spots in Mykonos

Looking for the best Instagram spots in Mykonos? These are my favourite photo spots on the island and how to find them.

It’s no secret that Mykonos is a pretty photogenic island. There are countless images of the island all over Instagram and it’s usually pretty high on photographers’ bucket lists. 

With its whitewashed buildings, gorgeous beaches, and cobblestone streets, Mykonos has that classic ‘Greek island’ look that belongs on a postcard. There are lots of different photo spots in Mykonos from viewpoints over the island to small cocktail bars, colourful houses, and even unique shops. 

So, whether you’re a pro photographer or a casual Instagrammer, these are some of the best photo spots to wow your followers. 

1. Mykonos Windmills

Easily one of the most iconic Mykonos Instagram spots is the famous windmills. Located on the edge of the Old Town (Chora), the windmills are almost a symbol of the island. 

They’re also completely beautiful with their cylindrical shape, whitewashed exterior, and location on a small hill overlooking Little Venice. 

To take good photos here, I recommend arriving at sunrise. We visited Mykonos in October and arrived around 7:30am to take this shot. The area was virtually empty, except for a few other photographers, and the soft pinkish glow over the horizon really added to the shot. 

As this is one of the best places to visit in Mykonos, it can get really busy during other times of the day as well. Sunset also has great light, but the windmills will be far from quiet then!

2. Negrita Bar

Easily one of the best and most famous bars in Mykonos, this place is beautiful. It’s another almost iconic Mykonos sight and actually became famous through Instagram. 

Now, despite being the busiest time of day at Negrita, sunset is much better than sunrise. The way the sun sets almost directly in front of the entrance of the building creates an absolutely beautiful glow around the entrance to the bar. 

That coupled with the flowers around the entrance makes for a very pretty photo. Also, if you walk through the bar, it opens out to Little Venice. So, you’ll have views of the sunset over the ocean as well. 

Of course, as I mentioned, it’s a very popular spot, so don’t expect it to be empty. But you could also get some good shots with people in them which would make for a natural photo. Always best to ask before taking photos of other people though.

3. The #Happiness Shop

Located in the centre of Chora, this shop is another spot that became famous through Instagram. It’s a small clothing store located in one of the whitewashed buildings in the town centre surrounded by cobbled streets. 

It’s a very photogenic spot on its own, and the words ‘Happiness’ on the front of the shop just add to it. 

For the best photos here, I recommend arriving at sunrise. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the shop will still be closed, so you’ll have the effect of the bright blue door against the white walls. 

Secondly, the crowds will be much smaller during this time of day. You may still have some crowds, but during the daytime, it’ll be more impossible to get an empty shot here. 

4. The Church of Panagia Paraportiani

With its dramatic white exterior, smooth lines, and symmetrical appearance, this church is one of the most photographed churches in Greece. Located next to Little Venice, this spot is pretty serene and there are lots of areas to snap a good photo.

The church itself is stunning, and with the right angle, you can create a really good shot. Secondly, to the left of the church, you’ll find another great angle with the ocean in the background. Third, if you continue down here, you’ll find a rocky outcrop. 

You can climb down and onto the rocks beneath. This will give you an entirely different view of Little Venice, and you can also see the Mykonos Windmills in the background. 

5. Kastro’s Restaurant

This iconic spot is located almost right next to the Church of Panagia Paraportiani. This is one of the top restaurants in Mykonos, but it became famous because of the small alleyway next to the restaurant that leads directly to the ocean. 

6. Mykonos Viewpoint

This is one of the hidden gems in Mykonos and one of the lesser-known photo spots on the island. You have to hike here from the town and yes, a considerable amount of that hike is uphill! It only takes around 20 minutes though, so it’s not too bad!

7. Pelagos Gift Shop

There are lots of cute shops and places in Mykonos Old Town where you can buy gifts and trinkets. But none is more photogenic than Pelagos. 

This cute little shop looks more like an antique shop than a gift shop! With the walls lined with the cutest paintings and artwork, it’s a great spot to snap a few photographs of the old town. 

It can be quite a crowded spot in the afternoons though as people are actually shopping there as well as buying gifts. However, if you arrive too early, all the gifts and ornaments haven’t been put out yet. 

So, getting a good shot here is all about finding the balance between opening hours and being too busy!

8. Boni’s Windmill

If you’re looking for the most Instagram-able sunset spots in Mykonos, you can’t go wrong with Boni’s Windmills. This is actually one of my favourite free sunset spots on the island – there are plenty that you have to pay for but this one delivers all the beauty without the £20 cocktail to go with it!

Located about a 10-minute walk uphill from Little Venice, this spot is both a history lesson and a photography spot. It’s actually part of the Folklore Museum and, if you want, you can pay a couple of euros to go inside the windmill and see the mechanism. 

This will also allow you inside the gate, where you can see the windmill up close. If you don’t fancy that, you can just enjoy the sunset from outside the gate. It’s beautiful either way and you can see the sun setting above the town.

9. Little Venice

One of the most famous spots in Mykonos, Little Venice is one of the classic places to visit on the island. Pretty much everyone who visits Mykonos will spend some time here. It’s located right in the heart of Chora and a 2-minute walk from Mykonos Windmills. 

Aside from that, it’s just beautiful. With the colourful buildings, waterfront cocktail bars, and upscale atmosphere, it’s a great place to capture the essence of Mykonos. And there are lots of places you can capture this from 

A few of my favourite places to photograph Little Venice are:

• The windmills you get an overview of the town
• The beach in front of Little Venice
• From the walkway of Little Venice. If you time this just right, you can catch a very dramatic wave
• From the end of that path looking right at the colourful houses
• From one of the many cocktail bars along the seafront like Negrita. 

Of course, we’ve already talked about Negrita being the most famous cocktail bar on the lot. But there are so many great places along the Little Venice waterfront to snap some great photos. Sometimes, you just have to get a little creative too!

10. Mamalouka Restaurant

If you visit Mykonos at the right time of year, this restaurant gives off the best floral vibes in the old town. The thing that makes this one of the best photo spots in Mykonos is the huge bougainvillaea and cacti draped around the doorway of the restaurant. 

If you catch it in full bloom, it’s utterly stunning, so you’ll want to make sure you visit between late spring and the start of autumn to see it at its best. 

Because it’s a restaurant, this is another spot where you have to be very careful with timing. You don’t want to arrive too late in the day, or the restaurant will be full of people. But, if you arrive too early, the tables won’t be set up yet. 

It depends on what time of year you visit, but it’s definitely worth checking the opening times before you visit this one.

11. Delos

When most people think of Delos, they think of the historical site. This is absolutely stunning by the way, and if you have longer than a day in Mykonos, I highly recommend a visit.

However, the thing that many people don’t realise about Delos is that, if you can handle a LOT of stairs up to the top of the island, the views are incredible!

What is The Most Beautiful Instagram Spot in Mykonos?

So, overall what are my favourite spots in Mykonos for photographers? The #Happiness Shop and the Mykonos Windmill shots are two of my favourite photos I’ve ever taken.

Plus Negrita Bar, a classic, and the Delos viewpoint because it shows a completely different side to Mykonos outside the typical white cobblestone streets. 

But there are so many beautiful photo spots on this island outside of these. Sunset Bar 180 is an honourable mention, the Veranda Bar is beautiful, the I Love Mykonos Stairs, and some of the beautiful beaches in the south are also fantastic for photography. Plus, you can find some gorgeous spots simply by wandering the streets of the Old Town.
