So, now it’s time for the fun stuff! With long stretches of beautiful beaches, great food, an art scene that rivals New York City, and some world-class nightclubs, these are the 14 best things to do during your 2 days in Miami.

1. Relax on Miami Beach

You simply can’t spend a weekend in Miami and not visit Miami Beach! The famous Miami Beach is the perfect spot for soaking up some rays. The beach is famous for its beautiful sunsets and calm waves, as well as the many hotels along its front.

Miami Beach is a must during 2 days in Miami

It’s possibly the most recognizable site in Miami. With its wide beaches and picturesque skyline, it’s the place most featured on postcards or tourist information about the city. Hang out here in the evening to get some wonderful photographs of the Miami skyline.

Plus, Miami Beach has a large LGBTQ population, so there are always pride events taking place during the summer months. You’ll find lots going on here including art exhibitions, happy hours with drag queens and plenty more.

This area also offers plenty of trendy boutiques along Lincoln Road; it’s great if you want an upmarket shopping experience while visiting Miami.

2. Explore the Art Deco District

Miami’s Art Deco District is one of the most popular places to explore and a must-see during your 2 days in Miami. There are a lot of buildings and points of interest for you to visit, such as The New World Center or Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.

Art Deco

The Art Deco District is alive all day, but at night it really shines. With a rainbow of neon signs, many restaurants covered with colourful canopies, and the electric vibe of Ocean Drive (where much of it is located), at night-time, it’s a completely different atmosphere.

3. Wander Bayside Marketplace

Bayside Marketplace is a large outdoor shopping mall in the Biscayne Bay area, which is near Downtown Miami. The marketplace has more than 150 popular stores, charming boutiques, cute cafes, and big restaurants for you to explore. There is also a waterpark with swimming pools, a visitor centre and a few funky statues.

The Cuban capital of Miami, Little Havana is one of the most vibrant cultural districts in Miami. Here is where you can find authentic Cuban food, and traditional Cuban cigars, enjoy live music, and try out the classic Latin dance.

6. Bayfront Park

Bayfront Park is a must-see spot in Miami and offers a lot for visitors to enjoy. The park is free to explore and is home to many beautiful trees, gardens and fountains. Alternatively, you can take a Bayfront Park Walking Tour.

One thing you should not miss out on is Coral Gables’ Farmer’s Market which takes place every Saturday morning from 8 am until 2 pm. Here, locals gather together offering fresh produce, crafts, and more.

8. Ocean Drive

Besides Miami Beach, the other famous location you will probably have seen in Miami is Ocean Drive.

This bustling street is filled with palm trees, upscale hotels and plenty of restaurants to suit every taste. They are rather touristy and some are pretty expensive although they do have wonderful cocktails!

But, for some of the best restaurants in Miami, you’re better off heading to where the locals go and avoiding chains or touristy areas.

There are quaint cafes surrounded by lush greenery as well as quirky stores selling everything from antiques to decorated seashells.

Enjoy an unforgettable experience during your Miami 2-day itinerary at the Miami Seaquarium. This is one of Florida’s largest aquariums. You can explore this fascinating underwater world from every angle, including above and below the surface as well as beneath sea-life tanks.

It’s perfect if you’re looking for some chilled-out fun, during your weekend in Miami, or if you need something indoors as the heavens have opened. There are also plenty of animal encounters where you can feel like a kid again meeting sharks, penguins or stingrays up close.

12. Holocaust Memorial Miami

For one of the more sombre things to see in Miami, the Holocaust Memorial is a must.

This is a memorial to the millions of people who lost their lives during World War 2. It offers insight into what happened in this time period and allows you to pay your respects.

13. South Beach

Definitely saving one of the best until last, South Beach is another of the top spots to visit during your 2 days in Miami. Known for its party vibe, this is the place to go if you’re in search of some non-stop nightlife and fun.

Not only are there nature trails winding among mangrove forests but also lots of wildlife like alligators and crocodiles, many special of like birds, or manatees underwater – just be prepared for bugs too because they love visitors here.

Where to Stay For 2 Days in Miami

So, the first thing you’ll need to think about if you’re planning a weekend in Miami is where to stay. If you’re someone who prefers to be near the beach, your best bet is South Beach. If you want a little more of a resort feel, then head over to Miami Beach.

South Beach hotels

A few of the best neighbourhoods to stay in Miami are South Beach, Little Havana, Downtown Miami, and Brickell.

  • South Beach – South Beach is the mecca of all things Miami. It’s got the best nightlife and restaurants, but you’ll also find a lot more tourists than in other parts of the town which, of course, means higher prices!
  • Downtown Miami – If you’re looking for an upscale experience with plenty of shopping opportunities then Downtown is your spot! This neighbourhood has what some would call “old money” vibes from its past as the financial hub of South Florida. This was before it was overtaken by tourism, but if that’s your thing this should be right up your alley.
  • Brickell – For anyone who wants to live large while they’re on holiday, Brickell might just be the place for you. You’ll have access to luxury apartments, great views, high-end shopping and lots of upscale restaurants.
  • Miami Beach – Staying near Miami Beach might not seem like a good idea, but there are some great neighbourhoods around here. If you want “local” experiences hit up Wynwood, Mid-Beach and Upper East Side. Some of the hotels near Miami Beach (like where we stayed) also have rooftop pools!
  • Little Havana – Little Havana is where you’ll find all the Cuban food and culture that Miami can offer. You might want to also check out the Art Deco Historic District because this will give you a really good idea of what old Miami looks like.

What to Pack During 2 Days in Miami

Miami is a huge city with rural areas and beautiful beaches, so it can be tricky to know what you should bring when coming from abroad or from other areas of the US.

I recommend bringing clothes that feel comfortable (remember, Miami has lots of humidity) but also rain gear if there’s any chance it might rain during your stay as well! When we visited, there was actually a tropical storm so, whilst the temperature was warm, there was quite a lot of rain.

You’ll probably want at least 2 pairs of shoes too in case one pair gets wet, and a light waterproof jacket. But, if it’s hot outside, don’t forget your sunscreen, and light layers are always nice for dips in temperature.

Shopping in Miami

Plus, there’s some really good shopping here, so if you’re planning to hit the malls during your 2 days in Miami, I wouldn’t worry about packing your entire suitcase!

How to Get Around During a Weekend in Miami

It’s really easy to get around Miami. There are a lot of affordable options when it comes to transportation so that you can enjoy your weekend without any worries.

Uber is one great option, plus make sure to check if they have any promotions going on in the city which can save you even more money. Lyft also has some great deals like free ride tiers or discounted rates after certain hours.

Miami

Renting a bike might not be as popular as it is in other areas of the country, but Miami Beach has bike lanes for anyone who wants to ride. There are also plenty of buses that take you everywhere – the Metrorail – if you prefer not to order taxis.

But let’s be honest – the best way to get around is by walking! You can explore downtown with all its hidden gems while staying active during your stay in Miami by simply getting about on foot. This could save you a lot of money too.
