How Much Does it Cost to Go Paragliding in Oludeniz?

Let’s be honest: extreme activities like this are rarely cheap. In fact, I think they are the most expensive of all the things you can do in Turkey.

For instance, our trip to Cappadocia was very affordable, but the Cappadocia hot air balloon ride was pretty costly! Nonetheless, I think paragliding in Oludeniz is worth the price you pay as it’s such an amazing experience.

The cost tends to vary a little by season. On average you can expect to pay anywhere between £80 – £100 per person for tandem paragliding. This will also typically include pick up from your hotel, insurance, and a professional pilot.

How to Book Oludeniz Paragliding?

The easiest way to book this activity is simply to do it online. You can select your date, enter your hotel information for pick up, select the number of people, and pay in advance. There are usually multiple departure times throughout the day, so this allows you to pick a time that suits you best.

Make sure to book a reputable paragliding company. Look for a proven safety record, professional certifications, a safety certificate, years of experience, and positive reviews from past participants.

You’ll want an experienced pilot, so this step is pretty important! I recommend this company for the best paragliding in Oludeniz.

What Typically Happens During Paragliding in Turkey?

There are lots of preparations that go into ensuring your paragliding trip is safe. Prep often begins way before you actually reach the launch area. Here’s what you can expect during your Fethiye paragliding experience.

Before the Flight:

A day before, the guides will check that the weather conditions are favourable for a tandem flight. Oludeniz tends to have good weather (this is one of the reasons that it’s such a popular spot for paragliding in Turkey), and if so, then everything will go ahead as normal.

On the morning of your flight, the tour guides will come and pick you up from your hotel. If you’re staying in the centre of Fethiye town, or in Oludeniz itself, this is typically around a 35 – 45-minute drive up to the top of Babadag Mountain to the meeting point and the launch site.

Babadag is the only mountain in Europe where you can paraglide from a height of 2000 meters. This is another reason why it’s such a popular destination for paragliding in Europe!

Once you arrive at the top of the mountain, the staff will help you get ready for the flight. They’ll suit you up with the necessary gear and then begin your safety briefing.

You’ll need to pay close attention to this if it’s a new experience and, even if it’s not your first time paragliding because they’ll tell you everything you need to know about this particular experience.

This includes instructions about safety and security in the air. They will also talk you through the exact procedure that you will go through for take-off and again exactly what will happen during your landing.

Preparing for Take Off:

Once you are all suited and understand exactly what will happen next, your paragliding flight will begin! It’s pretty terrifying waiting on the platform for the takeoff, but it’s an excited kind of scared and definitely worth it.

Once you’re both ready, since it’s tandem paragliding, your pilot will attach themselves to your uniform. Then, you’ll begin running towards the edge of the launch pad. This is by far the scariest part.

You can see the edge of the cliff coming towards you faster and faster. Then, before you even know what’s happening, you’re in the air and soaring over the mountain peaks and greenery of Babadag.

After you take off:

As you glide through the air, the breathtaking scenery unfolds beneath you – the vivid turquoise hues of the Mediterranean coast and the lush greenery of the surrounding mountains.

You can also see the spectacular Blue Lagoon. you will begin to fly closer and closer to it – which makes sense as you’ll be landing on Oludeniz beach nearby.

During the flight, if you’re feeling curious and adventurous, your pilot might show you some basic manoeuvres and even allow you to steer for a while.

He will also stop doing this and make the flight as smooth as possible if you’d rather not be doing loops and circles. I’m the sort of person who hates roller coasters if they do any loops, so this was me through and through!

The pilot will also be taking photos and videos throughout the flight, but you may also want to bring a Go Pro or other camera if you have one because they will charge extra for these.

Landing:

The flight time is roughly 25-30 minutes, but this could be slightly more. It could also be less if the weather conditions are less than favourable. You’ll start getting lower and lower over Oludeniz Beach before touching down smoothly on the sand with the pilot’s guidance.

After you’ve landed, the pilot will show you the photos and videos. He’ll give you the option to purchase pictures or a video package for an additional cost if you wish.

When we landed, I was honestly too giddy to think about purchasing photographs – my adrenaline was through the roof! But in hindsight, I wish I’d got some memories of the experience, so I should probably have done this.

What to Wear Paragliding in Fethiye Oludeniz?

Comfort is key when you’re paragliding. Especially for activities like this, it’s more important than ever to dress appropriately – not to mention, inappropriate dress could also hinder your safety.

I recommend wearing long bottoms and a long-sleeved top. You might be thinking that you’ll be much too hot in the height of summer in Fethiye to wear long sleeves, but in the air, the winds can be around 40mph.

This can actually end up being pretty chilly, even on a hot summer’s day. Plus, this will help protect your skin during the flight from the head of the sun.

In the spring, autumn, or winter months, I would even go so far as to suggest wearing multiple layers including a windbreaker jacket.

You’ll also need durable footwear, to support your feet during take-off and landing. Sunglasses are a must to shield your eyes from the sun’s glare. It’s also a good idea to bring gloves. They can provide a better grip as well as keep your hands warm at higher altitudes.

Lastly, remember to apply sunscreen generously to exposed skin, as UV rays are more intense above the ground.

The Best Time to Go Paragliding in Oludeniz?

The time of year that you decide to go paragliding in Oludeniz can significantly change your experience. The ideal flying season is between April and November when the weather is generally warm and stable.

The best months to go paragliding in Turkey are June, July, and August. These typically have clear blue skies and the best thermal conditions.

While this is perfect for those looking to experience longer flights, it’s by far the busiest time as it’s the peak season for travel in Turkey. So, you may need to book months in advance. We visited Oludeniz in mid-June; it was very busy and very hot.

If you’re looking to avoid heavier crowds, you may prefer the shoulder months of May or September. The weather is still lovely and the area is less packed.

Is Oludeniz Paragliding Worth It?

This is a resounding yes! The views from the air are incredible and, while the adrenaline rush can certainly make you feel a little weird afterwards, it’s well worth it.

It’s a great experience and one of those things that you might only do once in your life. Although it’s expensive, the memories will last a lifetime and you won’t regret it one bit!
