Are you planning a trip to Oman? If so, you’ll likely be landing in their capital Muscat. A fantastic city full of history, souks, beautiful waterfront views, and welcoming locals, Muscat is the perfect place to base yourself for your first few days in Oman. And, there are so many wonderful hotels in Muscat that you could end up wanting to stay there for your entire trip!
Plus, one of the best things about many of the wonderful places to stay in Muscat is that there is a whole range of budgets for every traveller. You can find super affordable hotels and some seriously fancy hotels if you really want to splash out!

The Best Mid-Range Hotels in Muscat
Let’s start with the mid-range hotels in Muscat. This was the type of hotel that I looked at when staying in the city.
I didn’t really want to spend a fortune, but I also wanted a very nice hotel with lots of amenities and a comfortable bed. So, I went for a mid-range hotel and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest!
1. Intercontinental, Muscat
This was where we stayed for our final two nights in Muscat. It’s an IHG Hotel and it was perfect. The hotel itself was different to every other hotel I’d ever stayed in.
There was a huge open lobby with a high ceiling and several bars around the outskirts. In the middle was a large elevator block with 3 different elevators all leading the various hotel floors. These elevators were made of glass and it was quite fun to watch the scenery whizzing by on the way to our room.
Inside the rooms were easily one of the comfiest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. There was a huge bed in the centre. Then, there was a small balcony, a seating area, and the most elaborate coffee and tea station I’ve ever seen.
I had so much fun playing with this! There was complimentary tea and coffee along with a coffee machine (I love a room with a coffee machine), and paid for drinks and snacks too. The bathroom was also excellent with a rainfall shower and wonderful smelling toiletries.
As well as the fantastic rooms, the hotel’s facilities were also amazing. Outside, there was a total of 7 restaurants! Since we were only there for 2 nights, we couldn’t try everything. But we did have a fantastic dinner at Mynah’s Edge, a wonderful Arabic restaurant outside.
It was pretty romantic sitting under the palm trees bathed in candlelight. Plus, the Omani Shuwa that I had was delicious, with tender lamb, walnuts, spices, saffron rice, and a rich sauce.
The hotel also has a huge outdoor swimming pool, an indoor pool, a beach, a fitness centre and much more. Plus, the staff really were lovely and a true taste of the hospitality of the Middle East.
Overall, if you’re heading to Oman and you want the perfect luxurious stay, Intercontinental is easily one of the best hotels in Muscat.

2. Grand Hyatt Muscat
Another fantastic hotel in Muscat is the Grand Hyatt. They have a large range of rooms and suites, each featuring modern decor and style.
You’ll find a large bed in the centre of the room and a cosy seating area next to it with a comfy sofa and plushy armchairs. There’s a balcony overlooking the ocean so that you can wake up to stunning sea views.
Some of their suites have 4-poster beds and twin sinks in the bathroom. The Royal Suite even has a huge dining table in the room!
Aside from the room, the hotel also features a fitness centre, a swimming pool, 7 restaurants (including one of the best Italian restaurants in Oman), and several bars including a sports bar and a pool bar.
The Best Luxury Hotels in Muscat
If you really want to splash out during your trip to Muscat, these next hotels are for you. Many have a much higher level of luxury, a much higher level of service, and a much higher price tag to go with them. But, if you really want to treat yourself, these Muscat hotels will be right up your street!
3. Kempinski Hotel Muscat
A stunning 5* hotel that just oozes Omani hospitality and charm, Kempinski Hotel Muscat is ideal for those who want a memorable stay.
Nestled against the backdrop of the Al Hajar Mountains and overlooking the Gulf of Oman, the hotel’s breathtaking setting is just one of the things that make it so special.
Inside, the meticulously designed rooms and suites feature contemporary furnishings, providing a haven of comfort and sophistication.
There are a range of rooms available including standard rooms (although even these are pretty special), elaborate suites – some with private swimming pools – and spacious apartments. There are even incredible two or three-bedroom villas, perfect for a family stay.
There are also a range of fantastic restaurants at the hotel. 5 different eating establishments serving a range of cuisines including Thai, Indian, and Arabic.
There are also two cafes serving light bites and afternoon tea, several bars including a pool bar, a tea house, a cocktail lounge, and even a bowling alley, complete with a selection of snacks to eat while you bowl.
When it comes to facilities Kempinski also doesn’t disappoint. You’ll find a luxury spa, a selection of wellness treatments, a fitness centre, a tennis court, a luxury swimming pool, and a beach allowing you to take a dip in the beautiful Arabian Sea,
All in all, you can’t really go wrong with the Kempinski and it’s easily one of the best hotels in Muscat.
4. Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa
Another breathtaking 5* resort in Oman, the Shangri-La Al Husn Resort & Spa is a centre of luxury and tranquillity in Muscat. Positioned within the renowned Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa complex, Al Husn caters to the desires of discerning travellers seeking a secluded retreat.
The resort is adults-only and features a private beach and a huge infinity pool, as well as a health club, a spa, and a gym. The resort’s infinity pool overlooks the Gulf of Oman, providing a picture-perfect setting for relaxation.
As well as activities, the restaurants at this hotel are also pretty fantastic. There are 2 restaurants on site – one delightful Indian restaurant serving a range of signature dishes prepared by an award-winning chef, and one Jazz and Grill restaurant serving luxurious BBQ dishes.
There are also two bars on site, whipping up a selection of fantastic drinks and colourful cocktails. The beach bar also serves a range of lunch dishes including fresh seafood, salads, and sandwiches overlooking the Gulf of Oman.
Choosing Shangri-La Al Husn promises refined elegance, unparalleled comfort, and an unforgettable retreat for those who appreciate luxury hospitality.
The Best Budget Hotels in Muscat
Finally, these are two of the more affordable hotels in Muscat. We stayed at both of them during our time driving around Oman. The airport hotel when we landed and we then stayed for two days in the city before we began our Oman road trip at the Centara Hotel.
Considering they’re the most affordable hotels on this list, they were both absolutely fantastic!
5. Centara Muscat Hotel Oman
We spent two nights here during our time in Oman and we were very impressed. The hotel doesn’t look particularly impressive from the outside, but don’t let that put you off. Inside, is a very different story!
The reception desk is immediately in front of you as you walk in and, once you’ve checked in, you’ll head to the elevator to head up to your room.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with huge, comfortable beds, a desk with a seating area, and a stylish, modern bathroom.
There’s a rooftop pool overlooking the city, a fitness centre and spa on the floor below, and a rooftop restaurant as well. We ate here on our second night where they served a delicious Thai and seafood buffet.
On our first night, we also ate at the hotel as we saw their very tempting-looking Thai restaurant when we arrived (if you’ve read this blog before, you’ll know how much I love Thai food, so I couldn’t resist!).
If you do decide to eat here, I highly recommend the Thai Green Curry – it was so tasty!
Breakfast in the morning was also a pretty impressive affair, with a huge selection of breakfast options from around the world. There were pastries, cereals, fruit, and toast, a ‘choose your own eggs’ station and a selection of hot items including beans, waffles, chicken sausages, and vegetable korma!
All in all, if you’re after one of the best hotels in Muscat, but don’t want to spend a fortune, I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

6. Novotel Muscat Airport
Last but not least, this hotel makes the perfect place to stop either on the way to or from the airport. Our flight landed in Oman at 4am, so we crashed at this hotel for a few hours before waking up to collect our rental car from the city centre.
It was the perfect location, only a quick 10-minute taxi ride from the airport, and it had everything we needed for a night’s stay.
On first impressions, the hotel actually looks pretty impressive. It’s in quite an empty location despite being next to a central road to Muscat.
There was a lot of space around it and the building was pretty nice. Inside, you walk straight into their grand lobby (nowhere near as Grand as Intercontinental Muscat, but still fairly impressive), and check in at the reception desk.
The rooms are perfect. The beds are very large and extremely comfortable and there’s a seating area next to the beds. There’s also a huge flatscreen TV, and a modern bathroom with a large shower, complimentary toiletries, and fluffy towels.
As well as the rooms themselves, the hotel also provides a range of amenities for guests. There’s a large breakfast room serving an array of delicious items to start the day.
This also doubles as a restaurant for evening meals. There’s a rooftop pool, a fitness area, and a spa and wellness centre, ideal for relaxing before or after your flight.
Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Muscat, Oman
Overall, when it comes to hotels, Muscat has just about everything. If you want affordable you can have it, and the rooms are pretty nice considering the price for them.
But for slightly more, you have the choice of some utterly fantastic hotels in the city. Then, if you really want to splash out, Muscat can provide the ultimate luxury.
Of all the hotels I stayed at, Intercontinental Muscat was by far my favourite. It was just so much more than what I was expecting – both the inside and outside of the hotel was incredible and the little extras like the coffee cabinet really made it wonderful. The food was also delicious.
My second favourite of the best hotels in Muscat was Centara Muscat. For the price, I thought it was a wonderful hotel, and the Thai restaurant was really the icing on the cake!
