14 Warmest Places in Europe in November

Sharing is caring!

Searching for the warmest places in Europe in November? These are some of my favourite destinations for a bit of winter sun just before Christmas.

I absolutely love November. I think part of the reason is that it’s just before Christmas, so much of the festive craziness associated with the end of the year hasn’t quite kicked in yet.

In November, prices are lower, crowds aren’t there, and you can still find sunny beaches, fantastic city breaks, and gorgeous historical sites at many European destinations. And, since it’s fully off-season, you may even have some popular places to yourself!

So, if you’re looking for a warm break in November, here are some of the top places to visit.

1. Paphos, Cyprus

Average Temperature: 22°C

Paphos is both underrated and beautiful. Located in the Mediterranean, the little island is one of my favourite hidden gems in Europe. If you love history but have already been to Athens and Rome, I highly recommend heading here next.

There’s lots to do in Paphos. You’ll find waterfront castles, very impressive underground tombs, and plenty of mosaics. Plus, the old town is super cute with its cobbled streets and bustling markets full of handmade lavender soaps and painted ceramic dishes.

If you hire a car and head a little bit outside the city, you can explore one of the best amphitheatres I’ve seen in Europe. Limmasol isn’t far either, where you’ll find another tiny castle and a beautiful waterfront promenade with some great restaurants.

Of course, Cyprus is also a pretty good beach break and there are plenty of beaches near Paphos. Coral Bay is one of my favourites; it’s gorgeous and easily reachable by car and public transport.

2. Rhodes, Greece

Average Temperature: 20°C

For another little island that’s the perfect blend of historical sites and beaches, Rhodes is one of the warmest places in Europe in November. It was the first place I ever visited in Greece and really set my expectations for the country high.

It’s a fairly popular island, but you won’t find half as many crowds there in November as you’ll find in the peak summer months.

When we visited, we wanted to split our time between the Old Town of Rhodes and the beautiful whitewashed town of Lindos further down the coast. We stayed in two separate places and took a taxi between the two.

This meant we could spend the perfect few days in the Old Town exploring the historic streets and many of the best things to do in Rhodes, before heading to Lindos to see the Acropolis and a few of Rhodes’ stunning beaches.

It truly is a stunning island and there are plenty of hidden gems to see too including the beautiful Seven Springs or Kalithea Spa.

3. Valletta, Malta

Average Temperature: 20°C

We spent New Year in Malta and it really is one of the best places to go for winter sun.

During December and early January, the weather didn’t drop below 20°C during the day and most of the time we were walking around in jeans and t-shirts. November is likely to be warmer than this.

The evenings were a little chilly, but if you bring a jacket, you should be fine.

In addition to the fantastic weather, there’s so much to do in Malta. For a little island, it really packs a punch and there’s a huge range of ways to spend your time.

You can visit centuries-old temples, explore the citadel one of the most beautiful and historic parts of Malta and visit some pretty stunning beaches and bays. You can even go island hopping. You have to take the ferry from Malta to Gozo as Malta’s sister island is just as stunning!

All in all, if you want historic charm, cute cobbled streets, great beaches, and fantastic ocean vibes, Valletta is one of the best warm places in Europe in November.

4. Crete, Greece

Average Temperature: 15°C

Crete is the largest island in Greece. As you’d expect, there are quite a lot of wonderful things you can do on this beautiful island, especially in November.

Greece definitely has a peak season and, from May onwards, everything is open. In contrast, everything starts shutting down in mid-October, which we discovered when we spent a few days in Mykonos in the autumn.

You may then be wondering why I’d recommend it as one of the best places to visit in November. Well, because many of the top things to do in Crete are natural – they physically can’t close! Plus, you won’t have to contend with the crowds that swarm the beaches in Greece in summer.

Places like Elafonissi Beach with its pretty pink sand and Balos Beach are so stunning and much less crowded in November. I also recommend heading to the south of the island and exploring the spectacular Samaria Gorge, which is well worth the drive.

5. Gran Canaria, Spain

Average Temperature: 20°C

If you want a Spanish island that packs a punch I highly recommend Gran Canaria. Located off the coast of Africa, this island is part of the Canary Islands. It’s a pretty popular destination in Spain, known for its year-round temperatures.

However, if you’re visiting in November, you’ll get the best of both worlds. Warm temperatures, and fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season.

Road tripping through Gran Canaria in Spain

There’s so much to do in Gran Canaria. Since it’s a volcanic island, you can explore black lava, National Parks, and stunning landscapes shaped by volcanic activity.

However, you can also lounge on white sand beaches, climb sand dunes, and explore cute little old towns with cobbled streets and gorgeous architecture.

It’s the perfect combination of rural, mountain landscapes, beautiful towns, and stunning beaches. Plus, don’t forget the food as Spanish food is superb!

6. Kos, Greece

Average Temperature: 19°C

This cute little Greek island is located very close to the shore of Bodrum in Turkey. It’s less historical than Rhodes, but still a great place to visit if you love the combination of Greek history and beaches.

There are lots of great things to do in Kos. For instance, you can see the famous Hippocrates Tree, visit the Roman Odeon, explore the beautiful Casa Romana, and the historical site of Asklipieio.

The historical temples in Kos, Greece

There are also some lovely beaches and natural spaces on the island. A few of my favourites include Agios Stefanos Beach, Lambi Beach, and Kos Harbour.

Plus, if you really want to kill two birds with one stone, you can also take a day trip to Bodrum and explore the beautiful Turkish city as well.

7. Sicily, Italy

Average Temperature: 18°C

If you want an island vibe and some truly delicious food I highly recommend Sicily. The Italian gem is so pretty and full of wonderful history and beautiful Italian beaches.

You’ll find a combination of Greek, Roman, and even Arab influences in Sicily. But, it’s primarily known for its rich heritage and a lot of great historical sites.

You can visit the Valley of Temples, a fascinating collection of sites in the east. You can find stunning cathedrals and unique architecture in pretty much all of the towns.

There’s also plenty of natural beauty, primarily thanks to Mount Etna, one of Europe’s most active volcanoes. However, you’ll also find a pristine coastline, deep gorges, and nature reserves.

Couple all of this with Sicily’s cities, such as Palermo, and Catania, and stunning Italian cuisine and you’ve got an extremely diverse destination and one of the best warm places to visit in Europe in November.

8. Madeira, Portugal

Average Temperature: 16°C

If you love hiking and the outdoors, you have to visit Madeira. This Portuguese island is one of the most unique and intriguing places you can visit in Europe. It also has a very steady climate, so you can visit it all year round.

In November, it’s less crowded. This makes it a great time of year to go hiking along the famous trails, visit the black sand beaches, and explore hidden waterfalls.

The capital, Funchal, is also worth a visit with its cute streets, colourful buildings, and unique hilltop toboggan ride!

All in all, if you can brave the landing at one of the most dangerous airport runways in Europe, Madeira is a fantastic place to visit in November.

9. Tenerife, Spain

Average Temperature: 23°C

This is arguably the most popular Spanish island to visit. Tenerife is also located in the Canaries. In fact, it’s the largest of the group of islands. It’s also a popular place to visit in the summer months but has fewer crowds in November.

Considering it’s so popular, it’s no surprise that there’s a tonne of things to do here. You can hike up Spain’s tallest peak, Mount Teide, which is also a dormant volcano. You can also explore black sand beaches, go caving, find waterfalls, and explore some beautiful towns.

Gorgeous beaches in Tenerife, Spain

It’s also great for families and adventurers with plenty of water parks, theme parks, dirt biking, and paragliding available.

With prices much more affordable during the off-season, you should be able to find a very good deal in Tenerife in November. It’s a great place to go on an adventure, see some outstanding natural gems, and soak up both the sun and the Spanish culture.

10. The Algarve, Portugal

Average Temperature: 20°C

The Algarve is one of my favourite warm places to visit in Europe in November. If you love beaches, beautiful scenery and wonderful cliff formations, you’ll love it here.

Located in southern Portugal, the Algarve is a beach lover’s dream. However, like many of the top beaches in Europe, it can get crowded during summer, which can make it much less enjoyable.

If you visit in November, you’ll find off-season prices, fewer crowds, and the same stunning scenery.

Plus, the Algarve is a very affordable place to visit in Europe. You can find delicious food for a very reasonable price. If you’ve never tried cataplana and pasted de nata you are truly missing out!

11. Athens, Greece

Average Temperature: 18°C

Athens is without a doubt one of my favourite historical cities in all of Europe. It’s also one of the warmest places in Europe in November and much less crowded in the autumn.

We spent a few days in Athens in late October and had the absolute best time. The city was much cooler meaning it was lovely walking about the neighbourhoods, exploring the streets of Plaka and climbing up to the Acropolis without breaking a sweat.

The temples in Athens on a cool autumn evening

All of Athens’ top attractions are even better in the cooler months because they’re not sweaty and crowded. Athens itself is fascinating with all its ancient history. It’s more or less like walking through an open-air museum with ruins and historical buildings around every corner.

And, there are many great day trips you can take to see yet more stunning history. Plus, so many of the hotels have beautiful views over the Acropolis, so you can also spend a wonderful evening with a glass of wine at your hotel’s rooftop bar.

12. Antalya, Turkey

Average Temperature: 21°C

Okay, technically Antalya isn’t in Europe, but as it’s so easy to reach from many of the big cities across the continent I had to include it on this list. On top of that, it’s easily one of the hottest places to visit in Europe in November.

This is another destination that has a lot to do both in the city and around it. Antalya itself is a very historical place. You’ll find the gorgeous Hadrian’s Gate in the old town along with towers, mosques, and cobbled streets.

The fascinating Hadrian's Gate in the centre of Antalya

Outside of the city, you’ll also find some of the best historical sites in all of Turkey. The Phaselis Ruins are just a short car ride away along with the Site of Olympos, and the towering Mount Tahitali where you can literally see above the clouds.

On top of all that Turkish food is just delicious and I highly recommend you try kebab plates, baklava, pide (Turkish pitta) clay pot stew, roasted vegetables, and mixed rice.

13. Lisbon, Portugal

Average Temperature: 18°C

If you enjoy hilly cities with fantastic architecture and gorgeous surroundings, you’ll love spending a few days in Lisbon. In November, the weather is warm and pleasant and you can walk up and down the many hills without feeling like you want to tip a bottle of water over your head!

There’s so much to see in Lisbon. Head down to the coast and explore the Belem Tower, go inland and ride the Santa Justa lift for gorgeous views over the capital, or simply spend your time exploring the picturesque Alfama district and nibbling on pastel de nata.

You also have to explore Sao Jorge Castle, ride the famous Tram 28 around the city streets, and visit the Jerónimos Monastery.

I also highly recommend taking a day trip to Sintra. This colourful town is only around an hour from the capital by train and is such a contrast with the countryside surroundings, hilltop castles, and one of the most magnificent palaces in Europe.

14. Malaga, Spain

Average Temperature: 20°C

The south of Spain is a fairly popular place to visit, but there’s no denying its beauty. In November, you have the warm weather, the smaller crowds as the off-season in between summer and Christmas, and so much to see and do.

One of my favourite things about Malaga isn’t actually Malaga itself, but the surrounding area. If you hire a car, you can visit some utterly astounding places all within an hour of Malaga.

This includes a city built entirely under a rock and one of the (former) most dangerous hiking trails in Europe. You can visit Granada, Nerja, Ronda, and even head to Gibraltar, a completely different country!

But Malaga itself is still worth visiting. There are some truly beautiful beaches and a little old town with pretty streets and cute shops and restaurants. It’s the perfect base for a Spanish road trip and there’s so much to see.

November in Europe is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, exploring historical sites without the summer crowds, and enjoying local cuisine and cultural experiences.

It’s also a good time for beach walks and water sports in places like the Canary Islands and southern Mediterranean coasts.

Is it still beach weather in these locations during November?

While November may not be peak beach season, the weather in southern Europe can still be nice enough for beach activities during the day. This is especially true in the afternoon when temperatures are warmer.

Do you Have any specific tips for visiting Europe in November?

Yes, a few of my top tips include being prepared for varying weather, especially towards the end of the month. While it’s usually warm, temperatures can fluctuate, so packing layers is wise.

Also, be aware that some facilities, services, and even restaurants might operate on reduced schedules or be closed completely outside of peak season.

We found this during our time in Mykonos. We visited a restaurant on a Saturday night and wanted to go back on Monday, but it had closed for the season.

Is it worth exploring Europe in November?

Yes, it’s 100% worth visiting Europe in November. It’s one of the best times to travel if you want lower prices, fewer tourists to contend with and some lovely temperatures if you head south.

I absolutely love off-season travel and think it’s a much better time to explore the world than peak summer. If you’re wondering if November is worth it, it really is. So long as you’re not dead-set on spending your days sunbathing or swimming in the sea, you won’t be disappointed!
