1. Cyprus
Average Temperature: 25ºC
Cyprus is a beautiful island located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. In April, the weather in Cyprus is generally warm and sunny, with average highs in the mid-20s Celsius.
April is a great time to visit Cyprus. The crowds of summer tourists have not yet arrived, and the weather is pleasant and sunny.
The island is known for its beautiful beaches, ancient ruins – particularly around the delightful town of Paphos – and little villages. It’s a great destination for travellers who love history, culture, and the outdoors.
There are many things to see and do in Cyprus in April. For instance, explore the ancient ruins of the Temple of Aphrodite in Paphos, visit the Troodos Mountains, and tour the island’s charming villages, such as Kyrenia and Limassol.
Cyprus is also home to several national parks, with plenty of fantastic opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and other outdoor activities.

Spring is a great time to visit the island. It’s not quite as crowded as peak summer, but it’s still a very popular destination for an Easter break.
With volcanic landscapes of rugged mountains, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear waters, Tenerife is also home to a rich history and culture, not to mention mouthwatering cuisine.
There are many things to see and do in Tenerife in April. You can explore the island’s ancient ruins, such as the Pyramids of Güímar, hike in the Teide National Park, and visit the island’s charming villages, such as Garachico and Los Gigantes.
The island is also home to several theme parks, including Siam Park, one of the best water parks in Europe, so it’s ideal for a family holiday.
3. Gran Canaria, Spain
Average Temperature: 21ºC
Gran Canaria is another beautiful island located in the Canaries. In the spring, the weather is similar to Tenerife – one of the warmest places in Europe in April. At around 212ºC, it’s the perfect temperature for exploring the outdoors without getting too hot.
Gran Canaria is also very mountainous and has no shortage of beautiful landscapes. You’ll also find beaches, pretty villages, and rich history and culture.
There are many things to see and do in Gran Canaria in April. You can explore the island’s ancient ruins, such as the Cueva del Viento, hike in the Roque Nublo Natural Park, and visit the island’s charming villages, such as Maspalomas and Agaete.
The food is also pretty damn tasty. You can devour plates of tapas, delicious paella, and fresh seafood. The island is also known for its wine and cheese production.
4. Seville, Spain
Average Temperature: 22ºC
Seville is the capital of the Andalusia region in southern Spain. It’s an incredibly picturesque Spanish city – I’d go so far as to say that it’s one of the prettiest cities in Europe.
It’s definitely not a beach break, but there’s lots of history, culture, and architecture here. You’ll find stunning buildings, vibrant plazas, and beautiful green spaces.
April weather is lovely here. The days are fairly long and warm with temperatures in the low 20ºC.
While in Seville be sure to visit the the Giralda Tower and the Real Alcázar Palace. You should also see the Seville Cathedral and the Plaza de España which are both beautiful.
Seville is also home to several parks and gardens, including María Luisa Park, which is a great place to relax, enjoy the sunshine, and even go for a picnic. You could also spend some time wandering the city’s charming streets and trying some of the local cuisines.
Seville is well known for its food and you’ll find a delicious mix of Spanish and Moroccan flavours. Be sure to try some of the tapas bars such as El Rinconcillo, which claims to be the oldest tapas bar in the city. Also, try other delicacies like paella and gazpacho.
5. Lanzarote, Spain
Average temperature: 24ºC
April is the beginning of the spring season in Lanzarote. The weather at this time of year is generally very pleasant, with temperatures of around 24°C. It is also one of the driest months of the year, with relatively low humidity and few rainy days.
The island is known for its rugged, volcanic landscapes. They are some of the prettiest landscapes on all of the Spanish islands (in my opinion). it’s also a great island for outdoor activities with many opportunities for hiking, climbing, and even canoeing.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an island without some gorgeous beaches and Lanzarote doesn’t disappoint here either. The island is home to some of the most stunning beaches in Spain including Playa de Papagayo, Playa Quemada, and Playa de los Pocillos.
On top of all that, there are also volcanoes to visit here. Timanfaya National Park is home to an otherworldly landscape of volcanic craters and geysers.
If you decide to visit Lanzarote, make time to explore the island’s capital, Arrecife, as well as all the nature. Attractions such as the Castillo de San José, a modernist art museum housed in a castle make it well worth the visit.
Also, visit the town of Teguise and explore its historic centre, which is home to a weekly market and several interesting museums.
6. Malta
Average Temperature: 21ºC
Malta is one of my favourite winter travel destinations I’ve ever visited. We had 20°C every day and lovely weather when we visited in December. Of course, in spring, the weather is even better!
April is a great time to visit Malta and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and even swimming. The sea temperatures aren’t too chilly in April and there are some very picturesque swimming spots like the Blue Lagoon and the beaches of Gozo.
On dry land, there is no shortage of things to do in Malta either. The island is also home to many historical and cultural attractions, including ancient temples, churches, fortifications, and underground tombs.
We even went on a heritage walk across the clifftop to find ancient ruins and burial grounds while we were there.
The island is also much less crowded than during the peak tourist season. I recommend visiting the ancient temple complex of the Megalithic Temples of Malta, which are some of the oldest free-standing structures in the world.
Also, explore the capital city of Valletta, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to many historical attractions, such as the Grand Master’s Palace, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and the National Museum of Archaeology.
In the old town, you’ll find the ancient city of Mdina. This city is surrounded by towering walls and cobbled streets, and you can find a few panoramic viewpoints across the ocean.
You could also take the ferry to one of Malta’s small islands, such as Comino or Gozo, and enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters.
7. Algarve, Portugal
Average Temperatures: 22ºC
Southern Portugal is a beautiful place to visit but summer sees high crowds, packed beaches, and scorching temperatures. In comparison, spring is rather pleasant.
It’s definitely t-shirt weather, but possibly not hot enough to sunbathe, with average high temperatures of around 22°C.
The region is known for its beautiful beaches, charming towns, and picturesque landscapes. This makes it a great time to visit the Algarve and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and exploring secret beach coves.
The Algarve is also home to many historical attractions, including castles, churches, and museums, as well as a variety of restaurants and bars.
Be sure to explore the towns of Tavira, Albufeira, and Portimao. The Ria Formosa Natural Park, and the Cape St. Vincent lighthouse – the most southerly point in Europe – are also well worth a visit.
Don’t forget to try some of the region’s local cuisine. This includes dishes such as cataplana (a seafood stew) and pastel de nata (a type of egg tart) which are both delicious.
8. Crete, Greece
Average Temperature: 18ºC
Next, lets we head to the largest of the Greek islands. When it comes to the hottest places in April in Europe, Crete is another wonderful place to visit. The weather is generally warm and sunny, with average highs in the mid-teens, and the crowds are thinner.
The island is known for its stunning natural beauty, with rugged mountains, pristine beaches, and crystal-clear waters. It is also home to a rich history and culture, with ancient ruins, charming villages, and delicious Greek food.
There are many things to see and do in Crete in April. You can spend your days exploring the island’s ancient ruins, such as the Palace of Knossos, hiking in the White Mountains, and visiting charming villages, such as Chania and Rethymno.
Crete is also home to several national parks. Samaria Gorge is another great destination to visit in April and the hike is well worth it.
In addition to its beautiful scenery and fascinating history, Crete is also known for its delicious food. You can find a delightful mix of Greek, Italian, and Middle Eastern flavours. I highly recommend kleftiko (lamb cooked in a clay pot), and raki (a type of liquor).
9. Rhodes, Greece
Average Temperature: 20°C
Rhodes is the first place I ever visited in Greece. It was also the first place I visited with my fiance (who was my boyfriend at the time!). Sentimental value aside, it’s also one of the warmest places to visit in Europe in April.
April brings mild temperatures and plenty of wildflowers. It’s the ideal time to explore the landscapes, especially considering the amount of rich history and beautiful scenery you can find here.
I recommend starting your exploration in the medieval streets of Rhodes Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with ancient walls and cute cobblestone alleyways.
Then, head down to the coastal areas on the west of the island where you’ll find beautiful beaches and, if you head to Lindos, even more history.
I also absolutely loved the Acropolis of Lindos here – plus, the views over St Paul’s Bay from the top are absolutely breathtaking. As an added bonus, the April warmth won’t turn you into a sweaty mess as you climb the steep hill to the top!
10. Rome, Italy
Average Temperature: 19°C
Rome is one of the most popular cities to visit in Europe – and for good reason. It’s a fantastic place, full of history and culture, and home to the only wonder of the world in Europe.
April is a great time for a city break at the Eternal City. It’s much less rainy than the winter months and the mild weather makes walking around the city streets very pleasant.
Our first time in Rome was over Easter and we had a fantastic time. The weather was perfect and, while there were certainly some Easter crowds, we still had a fantastic time exploring historical sites like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
As well as historical sites, you’ll also find lots of beautiful green spaces and spring blossoms. You can go for a leisurely stroll through the gardens of Villa Borghese or along the banks of the Tiber River.
It’s well worth a visit, even if you only spend a day in Rome before exploring more of Italy.
11. Split, Croatia
Average Temperature: 18°C
Split is easily one of the most beautiful old towns I’ve visited in Europe. We visited the Croatian city in October, but spring has very similar weather. Pleasant temperatures around 18°C make exploring the city delightful.
You can wander around the narrow cobbled streets, visit the famous Diocletian’s Palace, and climb to the top of the tower for stunning panoramic views over the city.
It’s also pretty easy to go on a day trip to Plitvice Lakes from Split and this is easily one of the most stunning places to visit in Croatia. Plus, during the spring months, the waterfalls will be pretty full, making some very impressive scenery.
Because the weather is much milder than the peak summer months, April is also a great time to explore the outdoor activities surrounding Split. You can climb Marjan Hill for stunning views over the bay and, if you’re after a closer natural park, Krka is well worth a visit.
12. Bologna, Italy
Average Temperature: 17°C
If you love Italian food (who doesn’t?), then you’ll fall in love with Bologna. This was another of the destinations we visited during our Easter trip to Italy. It was also a city that really surprised me. I wasn’t expecting to love Bologna as much as I did.
It’s the perfect destination for a blend of beautiful outdoor spaces and interesting history. You can climb the city’s iconic medieval towers and admire the intricate architecture. Then, check out the grandiose Basilica di San Petronio and the charming porticoes that line its avenues.
After that, delve into Bologna’s rich culinary heritage by indulging in traditional dishes such as handmade tortellini and savoury ragù alla bolognese at local trattorias and osterias.
I also recommend checking out the vibrant markets in the city centre, such as Mercato di Mezzo, where you can sample a load of delicious produce like hams, cheese, and baked goods.
13. Budva, Montenegro
Average Temperature: 19°C
In my opinion, Budva is seriously underrated. The small city on the coastline of Montenegro is often overlooked in favour of Kotor. And, I can’t deny that the town is beautiful, but, if you’re after a quieter and equally gorgeous place to explore in Montenegro, you’ll love Budva.
In the spring, the weather is perfect. A pleasant 20°C makes wandering the streets very relaxing, although you may still need a jacket as the evenings can get cooler. Admire the cobbled streets of the old town, find the Budva Ballerina statue, and relax on the beaches.
I also recommend heading into the mountains as well. It’s the perfect weather to explore Durmitor National Park getting too hot. The mausoleum in the south is gorgeous too, and from the summit, you can see into 5 different countries.
If you have a car, I also suggest heading to Skadar Lake to the east of the city. The views here are also spectacular.
14. Athens, Greece
Average Temperature: 20°C
Like Rome, this city is the perfect place in Europe for history lovers. With the stunning Acropolis taking centre stage, there’s a lot to see and spring means the ideal temperatures and fewer crowds.
You can spend your days in Athens wandering through the city’s iconic sights. Marvel at the beauty of the Parthenon, run a lap of the Panathenaic Stadium and explore the Ancient Agora and Temple of Olympian Zeus.
April is also a great time to spend a day in Athens exploring the city’s lively street life, where you can find bustling markets, quaint cafes, and vibrant neighbourhoods like Plaka and Monastiraki.
I also suggest checking out the street food – there are lots of stalls where you can try fresh souvlaki, gyros, and loukoumades drizzled with honey,
April in Athens is also the ideal time for hiking and exploring the outdoors. You couldn’t find a better time to hike up Mount Lycabettus for panoramic views over the city.
15. Paris, France
Average Temperature: 17°C
If you’re looking for the warmest places in April in Europe where you can see cherry blossoms, then you can’t go wrong with a trip to Paris.
Another of Europe’s most iconic cities, Paris is ideal for a short break. 2 or 3 days in Paris is the perfect amount of time to explore the city’s most well-known spots while also going off the beaten track a little.
Of course, I can’t recommend you visit Paris and not see the Eiffel Tower. But, I also recommend going for a leisurely stroll along the Seine River or perhaps having a picnic in Luxembourg Gardens.
Doing a day trip to the Palace of Versailles is also a must-do while you’re in Paris. The entire place is stunning and you could easily spend a whole day here exploring.
If you want to go a little off the tourist trail, wander through the cobblestone streets, of less-discovered neighbourhoods like Montmartre and the Latin Quarter.
16. Madeira, Portugal

For one of the most stunning hiking destinations in Europe, you have to head to Madeira. This Portuguese island has certainly grown in popularity over the last few years. However, if you visit in April, you can avoid a lot of the tourist crowds that flock here in the summer months.
And the best thing about this is that Madeira is a pretty steady island when it comes to temperature. There’s not a huge amount of fluctuation year-round, so you’ll still be almost guaranteed good weather, and sunny days.
Madeira is lush and green in spring, with colourful flowers. April is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and explore the island’s diverse landscapes, from dramatic cliffs and rugged coastlines to ancient forests and picturesque villages.
You can go for leisurely walks along the Levada trails, and discover cascading waterfalls and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Don’t miss the charming capital city of Funchal, with its historic streets, vibrant markets, charming cafes, and traditional Madeiran restaurants.
17. Mallorca, Spain
